カルロス・クルズ=ディエズは、ベネズエラのカラカスで1923年に生まれた。現在はパリを拠点に活動している。 1960年代にキネティックアートが台頭して以来、その分野の代表的なアーティストとして活躍している。彼は、色彩についての考察から、空間的知覚の探求を視覚的に行っている。 Chromosaturation（直訳＝色彩の飽和状態） 1965 パリ これらの作品は、すべての文化は“primary event”（原初的な出来事）、つまり、包括的な思考プロセス、並外れた感受性、神話といったものを発生させてきたシンプルな状況から始まっているという考えに基づいている。 私たちは、“色彩という概念”をこれまで変えることができなかったがゆえ、私が“原理”を変える証明として見せようとしているもの―つまり、形ではなく、空間に色をつけるということ―の本質を見抜くことができる。 Chromosaturationは3色のスペースから成る人工的な場所である。赤、緑そして青のスペースが、そこに入ってくるもの全てを“完全なる単色”の状態へと導く。 通常、網膜は非常に沢山の色を同時に認識していることから、“単色状態”の体験は観る者の網膜に混乱を引き起こし、それが起爆装置となって、観る者の意識の中に、色は物質的および具体的状態のことであり、すべての文化的慣習から独立して、形や材質を介さずに空間の中に存在するという概念を喚起する。
