ヴァリド・ラードは、1967年にレバノンのシュバニーエで生まれ、現在はニューヨークで活動している。彼の作品は、ミクストメディアのインスタレーショ ン、パフォーマンス、ビデオ、写真そして文学的なエッセイから成る。1999年にアトラスグループプロジェクトを発足。レバノン現代史の研究とドキュメン トの集積を行っている。
「私は、ここ10年間でアラブ世界においてヴィジュアルアートの新しい基礎の出現を目の当たりにしてきた。2008年にア ラブ世界の現代史と現代アート史についての研究プロジェクトを開始した。このプロジェクトはアラブ世界の文化と歴史が、そこで原住民や外部の力で引き起こ されてきた様々な戦争によって、物理的にそして非物理的にどのように影響を受けてきたかを考察するためである。」
